Boygenius have covered The Killers‘ hit song ‘Read My Mind’, and it is sublime.
The supergroup is a collaboration between indie stars Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker.
The new band have begun to incorporate the cover into live shows, most recently at the San Diego show on November 29. In their version, Bridgers, Dacus and Baker take turns to sing the verses then harmonise for a lush country-tinged chorus. You can watch the footage below.
They also performed ‘Read My Mind’, plus a cover of Dixie Chicks’ 1999 track ‘Cowboy Take Me Away’, during a live show for KCRW, alongside their own tracks ‘Souvenir’, ‘Me & My Dog’ and ‘Ketchum, ID’.
The group recently released their eponymous debut EP. In a five-star review, the NME said: “In truth, Boygenius’ lyrics are so strong, you could close your eyes and skip to any point of any song and find yourself being wowed in one way or another.
“A hallmark of the EP is its songs similar tendency to start small and subtle before growing into surging, swelling breakers.”

Phoebe Bridgers has been busy covering tracks, she released her version of ‘Christmas Song’ featuring iconic singer/songwriter Jackson Browne.
Brandon Flowers has previously said that ‘Read My Mind’ is his favourite track by the band. The Killers frontman responded to the fan question in 2017, saying “My favourite song, I’ve not been shy about, is ‘Read My Mind’ [from 2006’s ‘Sam’s Town].
“It doesn’t matter if we’re in a bar or an arena or a stadium or a festival or to 50 people, when ‘Read My Mind’ starts, the room changes.”
The singer added: “I guess it’s strange to have reverence for something that you had a part in creating but I guess I’m just thankful for that song.”
