Dominic West leads calls for a transgender James Bond

"They should have a transgender Bond because there are a lot of transgender people in the army."

Dominic West has suggested that the next actor to play James Bond should be transgender.

The star of The Wire, who has previously been linked with the iconic role himself, believes that it should be taken forward by Hannah Graf, who is the highest-ranking transgender soldier in the British Army.

West explained to the The Sunday Times Magazine: “She’s a beautiful girl who could be Bond. That’s actually a brilliant idea. They should have a transgender Bond because there are a lot of transgender people in the army.”

He previously met Graf when starring alongside her husband Jake, who is a transgender man, in the film Collette.

Responding to West’s suggestion, Graf admitted she was “flattered.”

“I’m very flattered that Dominic thought of me,” she said.

“I don’t think I’m going to become an actress anytime soon, but there’s no reason why there shouldn’t be a transgender Bond. We’ve seen too many men in hero-type roles and women playing second fiddle.”

It comes amid speculation about who will portray Daniel Craig in his final outing as Bond, which is due for release in 2020.

Although Idris Elba is believed to among the frontrunners for the role, he has previously remained coy about his prospects – after a fake report claimed that he was the preferred choice of producer Barbara Broccoli.
