21 Savage apologises for controversial ‘Jewish money’ lyrics

The lyrics featured in the rapper's new track 'ASMR'

21 Savage has apologised for some of the lyrics in his new track ‘ASMR’, which reference “Jewish money”.

In the song, the star rapped: “We been getting that Jewish money/Everything is kosher.” Attention was drawn to them after LeBron James posted an Instagram story in which he quoted the words.

On Twitter yesterday (December 25), 21 Savage apologised for any offence he had caused. “The Jewish people I know are very wise with there money so that’s why I said we been gettin Jewish money I never thought anyone would take offense I’m sorry if I offended everybody never my intention I love all people,” he wrote.

‘ASMR’ features on the rapper’s new album ‘I Am > I Was’, which was released on Friday (December 21). The record features guest appearances from the likes of Childish Gambino, MigosOffset, Post Malone, Schoolboy Q and J. Cole.

The album opens with lyrics about Tekashi 6ix9ine, who was arrested on firearms and racketeering charges last month. Titled ‘A Lot’, J. Cole raps on the opening track: “Pray for Tekashi/They want him to rot/I picture him inside a cell on a cot/Reflecting on how he made it to the top/Wondering if it was worth it or not.

‘I Am > I Was’ was originally scheduled for release on December 7, but didn’t arrive. 21 later offered an explanation to his followers on Twitter, writing: “Dam I forgot to drop my album my bad y’all.”

The record followed another new song from the Atlanta rapper in ‘Immortal’. The track featured in the new trailer for video game Mortal Kombat 11, which is set for release on April 23.
