Black Mirror’s ‘Bandersnatch’ offers over one trillion story combinations

A staggering achievement.

Black Mirror’s Bandersnatch reportedly offers more than one trillion story combinations, after it was confirmed yesterday that the new offering from Netflix allows users to choose their own adventure.

The 90-minute special follows the story of the titular book, a Choose Your Own Adventure book that proved to be so complex that it drove its author to murder.

As Stefan (Fionn Whitehead) attempts to adapt the book into a video game, he too loses his grip on reality – with viewers being provided with a number of different options about where they wish to take his journey throughout the film.

However, it’s now been confirmed that while the film offers only five possible endings, the numerous ‘choice’ points throughout mean that there is more than a trillion unique combinations on offer.

Although the combinations mean that viewers could potentially watch a 40 minute offering, most will experience a 90 minute version of the experience. It was also  reported that 312 minutes of footage were shot for the film.

Co-creator Annabel Jones told the BBC: “One of the most challenging things about making this has been the crafting of the world and the various branches, and also limiting the endless, infinite potential offshoots and different stories you can make.”

Meanwhile, it was yesterday revealed that the company included in the film is also being used to recruit designers for Netflix.
