Beyonce sued because her website is “inaccessible” to blind people

It's been accused of breaching the American with Disabilities Act...

Beyonce‘s company Parkwood Entertainment reportedly faces legal action after a blind woman argued that it denies equal access to visually impaired visitors.

The lawsuit was filed in New York by Mary Conner, who claims that the website breaches the Americans with Disabilities Act by featuring “an exclusively visual interface” that fails to included any alt text in code.

Conner’s attorney wrote in a complaint: ““Plaintiff dreams of attending a Beyoncé concert and listening to her music in a live setting.

“However, when she browsed the Beyonce.com website, she encountered numerous barriers which limited her accessibility to the goods and services offered on the website.”

The lawsuit also argues that the website features a discernible lack of accessible drop-down menus, and the lack of functions that would enable her to use a keyboard instead of a mouse.

A proposed settlement hopes to cover “all legally blind individuals in the United States who have attempted to access Beyonce.com and as a result have been denied access to the enjoyment of goods and services offered by Beyonce.com, during the relevant statutory period.”

Parkwood Entertainment are yet to comment at the time of writing.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Jay-Z and Beyonce were encouraging their fans to embrace veganism after previously embarking on a 22 day challenge set by their friend and physiologist Marco Borges.

“We used to think of health as a diet – some worked for us, some didn’t,” they write in an introduction for Borges’ new book The Greenprint: Plant-Based Diet, Best Body, Better World,

“Having children has changed our lives more than anything else,” they continue.  “Once we looked at health as the truth, instead of a diet, it became a mission for us to share that truth and lifestyle with as many people as possible.”
