Fan covers Bring Me The Horizon’s ‘Medicine’ in their old-school metal style

Back to their roots

Bring Me The Horizon fans have shared a cover of their latest single ‘Medicine‘, but in the more heavy metal stylings of the band’s past.

The Sheffield rock veterans dropped the latest single from upcoming album ‘Amo‘ last week, complete with a trippy and surreal video.

In the spirit of the diversity of the new album, ‘Medicine’ leans towards the band’s more pop and electronic side, rather than the hard rock edge of previous singles ‘Mantra‘ and ‘Wonderful Life‘ or their metalcore roots. Now, Youtuber Nik Nocturnal has recreated the track in the style of the band’s earlier week.

“This video is not meant in any way to dig at the original song they just released or try to replace it,” said Nocturnal. “It was honestly just a fun experiment of like, ‘Hey, I wonder how this new song would sound in their older style.'”

Speaking to NME last summer about what to expect from ‘Amo’, Sykes said: “There’s good stuff, there’s bad stuff, there’s weird stuff. It’s kind of more like a think-piece on love and how it can effect you. Not just you, but other people. You go into a relationship and people pick sides. There’s a pack mentality. It’s quite an easy way to write a concept album about love. Everything boils down to love in the end.

“Obviously ‘Amo’ is Portuguese for ‘I love’, obviously there’s the ‘ammunition’ part and then in European Portuguese it means ‘master’. It sounds happy, but there are all these hidden meanings that make it more complex.”

The band’s next major UK date will be when they headline and curate a day at London’s All Points East 2019. They’ll be joined by Run The Jewels, Yonaka, IDLES and more. Tickets are available here.

Bring Me The Horizon release ‘Amo’ on January 25.
