Watch Marshmello play a live set on ‘Fortnite’

The DJ created a virtual party in the video game

Marshmello played a live set in Fortnite: Battle Royale yesterday, with fans hailing it as ‘one of the coolest things ever seen in a video game’.

Details of the Philadelphia DJ and producer’s plans to perform a concert within the game were leaked earlier this week in documents procured from the v7.30 update. Fortnite‘s makers Epic didn’t confirm the virtual gig but as users discovered, the virtual concert did go ahead.

Ahead of the show, players witnessed a stage being built within the game’s Pleasant Park. Once the show got going, a new bundle was released, which allowed players to play in a Marshmello skin with a pickaxe and spray paint also becoming available.

‘Party At Pleasant Park’ was a huge hit with fans, as players shared their experience of the show. “I burst into Dash’s bedroom at 11pm and screamed “Get out of bed! We’re going to a @marshmellomusic concert in Pleasant Park!”

“We then danced and laughed and sang for 15 mins. It was actually incredible. @FortniteGame isn’t a game. It’s something else,” one user wrote.

“The Fortnite @marshmellomusic concert event is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen in a video game. Well done Epic,” another wrote, adding: “Epic Games and Fortnite have set the bar in so many ways throughout the gaming industry and everyone else is playing catch-up. They’re putting on a show, literally.”

“It’s crazy to think THE biggest games takes the risk of trying new things to could be bad/boring/damaging to the game VERY frequently and adapt while other big multi-billion dollar companies do the exact opposite way and change very little, every 6 months. Deserved success,” another player wrote.

“The @marshmellomusic event in @FortniteGame was probably the greatest thing I’ve seen in bringing a community together,” a further player added.

Marshmello also shared his thoughts on the event, writing: “What makes me happiest about today is that so many people got to experience their first concert ever. All the videos I keep seeing of people laughing and smiling throughout the set are amazing. Man I’m still so pumped.

“If you thought that concert was lit, try coming to a real show. The Mellogang goes hardddddd!”

Epic Games are yet to reveal whether the concert was a one-time event or whether players can expect more shows on Fortnite: Battle Royale.
