Stan Lee laid to rest at private funeral as plans for fan tribute are confirmed

Stan Lee has been laid to rest at a private funeral, it has been confirmed.

The Marvel Comics legend died on Monday at the age of 95, after battling a sustained period of ill health. In a statement released last night, Lee’s company POW! Entertainment confirmed that he was buried at a private ceremony in accordance with his wishes.

As fans continue to react to Lee’s passing, it’s also been confirmed that a public memorial will be held to allow Marvel devotees to pay their respects.

“As we all continue to process our feelings of loss at the passing of a true legend, many are asking if there will be a memorial in Stan’s honour. Stan was always adamant that he did not want a large public funeral, and as such his family has conducted a private closed ceremony in accordance with his final wishes”, a statement confirmed.

“Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with them.”

Revealing plans for a public memorial, the statement said: ” We at Stan Lee’s POW! Entertainment are working on putting together a tribute befitting the greatest creator of our time and the father of modern pop culture. The grandeur of Stan makes this a monumental task, and we hope to have more info in the days to come.

The emotional tribute comes only days after the six original Avengers took out a full page advert in The Hollywood Reporter to pay their respects to Lee.

The advert – signed by Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner and Chris Hemsworth – hailed Lee’s “amazing legacy” and his “inimitable wit, grace and humility”.

Lee’s daughter has also confirmed they were working on one final superhero at the time of his death.
