Are the directors of ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ returning for Marvel’s ‘Secret Wars’?

"Surprise them with casting choices, surprise them with story choices,"

Avengers directors Joe and Anthony Russo have teased that they might not be finished with the MCU just yet.

As fans continue to mull the possible collaborations that may arise from an anticipated deal between Disney and Fox, the pair have spoken about how they’re hopeful for the X-Men to arrive within the MCU, along with other  “large-scale” crossovers.

“[We] feel like the mission of the Marvel Universe is to keep expanding and surprising people. Surprise them with casting choices, surprise them with story choices,” the pair said in a Q&A last night.

“If we’re moving into this world of crossover events, certainly that affords opportunity for other large-scale stories from the books like Secret Wars… There’s big potential moving forward if the Fox/Disney deal closes.”

Although the pair are yet to confirm their future after the Avengers ends, it’s been interpreted as a statement of intent.

As it just so happens, the 1984 Secret Wars comic book series was the first superhero team crossover and saw the Avengers teaming up with the likes of  the Fantastic Four and the X-Men.

Meanwhile, Avengers 4 is set to arrive in cinemas in April 2019, bringing about the end of the  franchise’s Phase Three. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has already been hyping up the importance of Avengers 4, saying it “will bring things you’ve never seen in superhero films: a finale.”
