Anchorman director Adam McKay has revealed that he’s held talks with Marvel about the possibility of replacing James Gunn as the director of Guardians of The Galaxy 3.
The third big screen adventure for Star Lord and friends still remains in limbo after Disney confirmed they were putting the project on ice. This came after director James Gunn was controversially sacked earlier this year when a right wing US pundit unearthed a series of contentious tweets that he had posted in the past.
But it seems that McKay, who has also directed The Big Short, Moneyball and most recently Vice, could be the man to get the project off the ground once more.
Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, McKay confirmed that he’s held talks with Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige about the prospect of taking over.
“We’ve talked a little bit. Yeah. We were kicking around the idea of the Inhumans at one point. We’re always kind of talking. I think [Marvel producer Kevin Feige] is just the greatest and I think what they’re doing is amazing,” he revealed.
McKay also outlined his visions for the film – and he’s a fan of Marvel’s plans to introduce Nova, an intergalactic police officer.

“Nova is… if we have a big board with a bunch of characters that have more immediate potential, Nova is on that board”, he said.
“Because of the connection to the Guardians universe, because there is more than one example to pull from in the comics that are interesting. And you’re absolutely right, he was in the earliest drafts of [ Guardians Of The Galaxy ].”
McKay’s potential involvement comes after it was revealed that a select few people have seen the script for Guardians 3.
Posting on Twitter, SlashFilm’s Peter Sciretta cryptically wrote: “If I had somehow talked to two separate people, who somehow read James Gunn’s Guardians 3 script, and both told me that it made them cry, I probably wouldn’t be able to say any more.”
Gunn, meanwhile, is believed to have crossed over to the other side of the comic world – reportedly joining the DC Comics Extended Universe as the writer of Suicide Squad 2.
