Emily Eavis rules another huge name out of Glastonbury 2019

One hopeful fan thought a festive Instagram post held a hidden clue for next year's festival

Emily Eavis has ruled out another huge name for headlining Glastonbury 2019 after one hopeful fan mistook a festive Instagram post for a hidden clue.

On Sunday (December 23), the festival organiser shared a photo from Wells Cathedral in Wells, Somerset on her personal Instagram account. “Wells Cathedral filled with 7000 candles.. beautiful and so peaceful,” she captioned the post.

While many took the picture at face value, one of Eavis’ followers tried to make a connection between it and next year’s festival. “Candles…candles int he wind? ELTON JOHN GLASTONBURY 2019?” they wrote, alongside three laughing emojis.

Eavis later replied with a disappointed message for the commenter. “ha! Thought there couldn’t possibly be any clues there but alas… (it’s not Elton),” she said.

John joins a list of other big names that the Glastonbury organiser has ruled out recently. Madonna, Fleetwood Mac, and Led Zeppelin have all been confirmed not to be playing. He had previously been given odds of 8/1 by bookmakers Betway and 1/2 from Paddy Power to be a headliner in 2019.

Betway’s favourites to headline included Liam Gallagher (7/4), Arctic Monkeys (2/1), and ABBA (6/1). Paddy Power, meanwhile, gave Kendrick Lamar the best odds to top the bill at 1/5.

However, one global name was confirmed to be heading to Worthy Farm for the 2019 edition of the festival last week (December 19). Kylie Minogue will perform at the event in the “legends” slot on the Sunday. She joins Stormzy as one of only two acts to have been announced from next year’s festival.

Glastonbury 2019 will take place between June 26-30 2019. The 2020 edition of the festival will mark its 50th anniversary.
