BTS’ Jimin breaks Drake’s Soundcloud record

Impressive.

BTS star Jimin has smashed Drake‘s SoundCloud record for the most streams on the first day of release after dropping his debut single.

The South Korean star released ‘Promise’ on December 31, which reportedly attracted a staggering 8.5 million plays within 24 hours.

It’s a strong take-down of the previous record, which was achieved by the 4.9 million streams that Drake attracted with Duppy Freestyle last May. His effort was a diss track which acted as a direct response to a song from Pusha T.

After being released, Jimin’s debut track reportedly held on to the top spot on SoundCloud’s Top 50 and Hot & New charts for 48 hours.

So far, it has more than 15 million plays – with the top percentage of them coming from South Korea, the US, Vietnam, Indonesia and Japan.

Meanwhile, BTS saw in 2019 with a  performance of ‘Mic Drop (Remix)’ in Korea.

Kitted out in red and black clothing, the ‘Love Yourself: Answer’ boyband unleashed highly-choreographed moves as they sang the hit. At the end of the performance, Suga swapped a mic drop move for a scroll that read ‘BTS – Happy new year ARMY’ in the Korean alphabet, Hangul.

2018 saw BTS make history as they became the first ever K-pop group to be nominated for a Grammy. Elsewhere, they were the first Korean artists to top the US charts twice. In October, the group performed two huge shows at London’s O2 Arena in support of their latest LP.
