BBC shares an intense new trailer for ‘His Dark Materials’ adaptation featuring Ruth Wilson and Lin-Manuel Miranda

The BBC have released a new teaser trailer for their adaptation of Philip Pullman’s ‘His Dark Materials’, and it’s looking very intense.

The drama – which is adapted from Pullman’s hugely successful trilogy of novels – is being created with HBO and fans have now been treated to a 30-second look at many of the famous faces gracing the show.

BBC shared the 30-second clip on Twitter with the caption “We’re keeping our Daemons close”, and you can watch the footage below.

Oscar Winning director Tom Hooper has been involved in the project and last year, it was announced that James McAvoy was on board to play Lord Asriel. But the new teaser also gives us a glimpse of Ruth Wilson as Mrs Coulter, Dafne Keen as Lyra, Lin-Manuel Miranda as Lee Scoresby and Clarke Peters as The Master.

In a statement from the BBC’s press office, Jane Tranter, Executive Producer for Bad Wolf, said: “We wanted fans to have a tiny glimpse of ‘His Dark Materials’. As with Lyra, there are many more worlds to discover as we start upon this epic journey.”

The official synopsis indicates that the series, which will air later this year, will follow orphan Lyra Belacqua, who lives in a parallel universe, as she embarks on a quest to find her kidnapped friend and subsequently discovers an ominous plot involving kidnapped children.

The series – which has been in the works since 2015 and involves This is England writer Jack Thorne – is set to air over eight episodes on BBC One later this year. A second series is already in the works too.
