Disney have shared the first full trailer for the upcoming live action remake of The Lion King. Check it out below.

A short teaser trailer was debuted last year, which soon became the most watched of all time – despite dividing opinion among many fans loyal to the original cartoon version.

Now, a longer taster of the movie has been premiered online – showing Simba, Scar, Nala, Timon and Pumba as well as recreating a few iconic scenes.

Narrated by James Earl Jones as Mufasa, The Lion King will also feature the voices of Beyonce, Donald Glover, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Billy Eichner, Seth Rogen and many more. The Jungle Book director Jon Favreau has directed the movie, which will be released on July 18.

Fans have now reacted to the trailer, with it drawing some mixed reactions. While many seemed pleased with the outcome shown in the short videos, others were less impressed, with one character in particular drawing criticism.

Some viewers are unhappy with the differences between the animated version of Scar and the one shown in the trailer. “They made Scar sound wimpy and he doesn’t even look like Scar,” wrote one Twitter user, who also added their dislike of the changes to “the iconic tree painting”.

Others suggested Chiwetel Ejiofor, who voices the villainous lion, isn’t frightening enough for the part. “Chiwetel Ejiofor is a good actor, but he doesn’t have the voice of Scar at all,” one person wrote. “He’s not a menacing actor. The way he played Mordo showed that he’s not the villain type. He never once felt threatening or scary during Doctor Strange. They should’ve cast Mads Mikkelsen.”

Another added: “Not a huge fan of the voice acting from Scar so far, but I’m in for the visuals and music for sure.”

The trailer also prompted debate over whether Scar had been made to look more realistic than he did in the animated version of the movie. While some suggested that was the case, others pointed out that some lions have dark manes like the original version of Scar. You can see those fan reactions and more below.

Last year, Elton John confirmed that he was working on the soundtrack for the new Lion KingJohn also revealed that he would be returning to the studio with his original Lion King collaborator Tim Rice to write and record a brand new song for the new film’s end credits.

Headlines were also made recently when a petition against Disney‘s trademark of the words “hakuna matata” attracted over 30,000 signatures.
